Happy Monday everyone!
I have to admit I’m in a blog/outfit slump. I blame it on the long hours of work and lack of sleep, but every time I sit down to write a post I can’t seem to organize my thoughts and narrow in on what exactly I want to write about. And the same goes when trying to plan out outfit posts. I can’t seem to figure out what I want to post and what I want to feature. But, of course I also feel as if I need “this jacket” and “this pair of jeans” and “these shoes” in order to post a decent outfit or else I just shouldn’t post anything at all. Sounds crazy? Sounds dramatic? Welcome to the wonderful world of my thoughts…which is currently a crazy jumbled mess.
Today I wanted to share my love of makeup. I didn’t start using makeup until the summer before my sophomore year of college when I fell in love with watching beauty videos on YouTube….and actually started my own channel (*insert monkey emoji covering eyes*). I haven’t posted a video is such a long time and if I’m being entirely honest I really do miss it and hopefully will have some new content up soon. But, in the meantime I wanted to take to my blog and share what I’m currently using and what my holy grail makeup essentials are.
Since I have oily skin, I always start off with a primer. The Smashbox one is my current favorite because it helps treat acne scars and discoloration over time. I’m not a massive fan of liquid foundation. I’ve only ever fallen in love with two…a Covergirl one which has since been discontinued and the Hello Flawless by Benefit Cosmetics. It seriously goes on so smooth and provides amazing coverage without feeling heavy. And the only thing I use to apply it is my Beauty Blender. I once thought it was absurd to spend $20 on a sponge, but honestly it’s so worth it.
I recently discovered the Trish McEvoy instant eye lift and I don’t know how I ever lived without it. It helps hide dark undereye circles and it blends in so easily. I’ve used the Bare Minerals loose foundation since I started using makeup and I swear by it. I don’t use liquid foundation all the time, but I always use my Bare Minerals powder either by itself or over the liquid foundation. I seriously swear by it. And I swear by my two favorite face brushes. Sigma has the best affordable brushes and I love the quality of Sephora, although it’s a bit pricer.

It’s taken a lot of trial and error to perfect my everyday look. I used to be scared of makeup and would steer clear of color, in other words blush and especially bronzer. But, I found that the most important thing with makeup is to create dimension and depth. I always use my Hoola brozer (which is evident in the photo below, since I hit pan) to contour my face and give some color. I’m also obsessed with Benefit Cosmetics blush and have made it my mission to collect them all, but my current favorites are a rose gold based one and a multicolored peach/rose/plum/pink one.
But, I always go back to my Nars orgasm blush. It’s one of my all time favorites and was actually the first blush I ever purchased. And to finish off, I always use a highlighter and my current favorites are liquid based one. Sun Beam which is the tan sister of High Beam and Girl Meets Pearl which is a great natural highlighter than can be worn on the weekends without makeup!
I’m almost always running late or rushing in the morning, so I don’t have time to create an amazing eye shadow look, but emphasizing my eyes is probably the most important step of my makeup routine. The one thing I wear everyday is a gel eyeliner on my top lid (not pictured), my favorite pencil eye liner worn on my waterline. And mascara on my top and bottom lashes to open up my eyes.
I may not always have time to create a full look, but I always make sure to blend a darker color in my crease and a bright white or neutral color in my inner corner to help me look more awake. I’m a massive sucker for eyeshadow palettes, so much so that I own every Urban Decay naked palette. My current favorites are my MAC palette, which oddly enough is still not filled, my Lorac Pro and the Naked Basics. Worn over the UD eyeshadow primer.
Since I have naturally oily skin, I’m always looking for the best finishing products to really lock in the product. One of my favorites is the Urban Decay de-slick finishing spray. I’ve been using this stuff since I started using makeup, but stopped using it for a while…because I was too lazy to buy a new one. But, ever since using it again I don’t know how I lived without it. It helps seal in your makeup and also helps make your makeup look natural so you don’t look too powdery or like you have too much product on.
I’ve also recently started using the Trish McEvoy finishing powder and I honestly swear by it. It’s a translucent powder that I use when I finish applying my makeup and I carry it with me everywhere I go to touch up my t-zone. It seriously helps combat my oily skin and helps me look matte and fresh. And since I always finish off my look with lipstick, I use my Dior lip balm beforehand. This is my second jar of it and I can’t get enough. I love the scent and it seriously keeps my lips super smooth.
I have a confession to make….I am obsessed with lip products. I seriously have way too many products in every shade and every type…gloss, pen, stick…you name it, I’ve probably tried it or have it. From drugstore to high-end I have a ridiculous amount of products. My current favorites are my Bobbi Brown lipstick and lipliner duo that seriously lasts all day. And staying on the high-end spectrum, I love the YSL lipsticks. They are so pigmented and creamy.
As for drugstores I swear by the Revlon lip butters. I pretty much have every shade and I constantly preach to everyone how amazing they are at such affordable prices.

I would love to know if you enjoyed this makeup post as much as I enjoyed writing it. Let me know if you would like me to incorporate more makeup into my blog! And I would also love to hear if you have any tips or tricks and favorite products because I’m always looking to learn!
Have a great week everyone!
