Happy Wednesday everyone!
I’m so excited to be teaming up with New York based designer Lisa & Lucy on today’s post. Their pieces are incredibly feminine and flirty that I was sold from the minute I saw the collection. Between the pastel pink, the floral print, the flirty hemline and delicate fabric, the look was giving me major romantic vibes so I thought it would be perfect for a date night.
Now, my boyfriend and I have been dating for a LONG time and to tell you the truth, we’re pretty lazy when it comes to doing cutesy couple things. We prefer staying in, eating too much and watching a movie, but when summer rolls around, it’s like we’re two bears coming out of hibernation. My best date memories with Eddie are definitely the ones we take over the summer so I wanted to share a few of my favorite date night ideas. Now there are a million things to do in NYC over the summer, but these are just a few of my highlights, which are also budget conscious. And for my ladies who are not from the city, you can definitely translate this into wherever you’re from!
Shake Shack at Madison Square Park
Burgers, fries and nothing but, good summer vibes! Madison Square Park is one of my favorite spots in the city. Eddie and I have been coming here to sit out on the lawn and enjoy the sun since we were in high school. The Shake Shack always has a massive line, but they move pretty quickly and honestly you just can’t go wrong with a good burger and crinkle fries. They have seating around, but I think the best thing to do after you get your order is move on over to the lawn to relax and have yourself a picnic.
The Classic Dinner, Movie & Dessert
As much as I love being outside during the summer, it’s hot!! So what better way to get refuge from the heat than at the coldest place during the summer: the move theater! Since theater food is too overpriced and just not that good, I like grabbing a bite to eat before. Our current favorite place is Umami because they have THE BEST burger and fries (can you tell I like burgers?) and during the summer they have $5 rosé. After a movie, we love grabbing a little sweet treat. My go-to movie theater in the city is the one at Union Square, so Eddie and I like getting a bag of candy from Dylan’s or going across the street to Max Brenner, which is basically chocolate heaven.
Brooklyn Bridge & Jane’s Carousel
The Brooklyn Bridge is one of those classic touristy things you just have to do. I wouldn’t recommend going during the high peak hours, which is pretty much the whole afternoon because not only is the sun way too strong, but it’s so crowded. But, I love walking the bridge either early in the morning or later at night. The walk is not far at all and it’s a great place to take some selfies, get some good pics in and get a great water view of Manhattan. The bridge spits you right out at DUMBO, which is another one of my fave spots. You can find the color wall to take some cute pics and they have some great eats there such as Shake Shack, Luke’s Lobster and Grimaldi’s. And since I’m a child and my boyfriend fully supports that, I love taking a spin on Jane’s Carousel. It’s honestly so much fun and between the laughs and the photos you could take, it’s so worth it.
If you’re looking for something to do in New York that’s free or low budget and that’s outside, just head to Central Park. I could spend hours on end here, not just because it’s beautiful and fun, but because it’s so big that I always get lost. Eddie and I used to come here back when we were in high school and I remember one time we kept walking around in a circle because we couldn’t figure out where we were going! There is so much to see and do in Central Park, between the row boats, the model sailboats, the many bridges, fountains and sights to see, you could spend every weekend here and still have more to see. It’s great if you’re just looking to get out and walk around without spending much money. I would recommend packing a lunch and having a picnic on the great lawn!
Just Get Out!
Listen, some of my favorite summer memories are when we wandered aimlessly around the city. Eddie and I started dating in high school where we were too young and too poor to do anything, so a lot of our favorite memories are summer ones where we just got out and walked around and since I love a tradition, most of those date nights have stuck. Whether you’re based in New York or a different location, it’s just fun to play tourist in your own city. Some of my favorite restaurants, coffee shops, dessert spots, places to take pictures and parks are the ones that we stumbled upon while just walking around. Plus it’s a nice adventurous thing to do so you don’t get bored and tired of the same ole’ routine.
During the summer, I try to be as simple as possible in terms of my look. It’s hot, I’m walking around and I just want to spend time with my boyfriend so I don’t want to worry about my outfit at all. Although that can get a little boring, it’s just too hot and sunny for me to care. So when I saw this look from Lisa & Lucy, I knew it would be the perfect date night look because its effortless, easy and breezy and so flirty and fun. I am 1000% obsessed with this top. I love that they took a simple tank silhouette and made it fun and flirty with the front and back v-neck detail, flirty ruffled hem and pastel pink color.
And these shorts! I’m sure you picked up on the fact that I like to eat from my date night ideas so I love that these shorts have an elastic waist. It makes it so incredibly loose and comfy that it felt like I was wearing my pjs out. Plus the floral print was the perfect feminine addition to this look.
Not only do I love finding and supporting New York based designers, but I love a brand that has a strong point of view and one that makes you want to be a loyal customer. Lisa & Lucy was only established this year, but their collection is flawless and gorgeous. I can totally relate to their aesthetic of “modern and feminine pieces feature vibrant prints, flirty hemlines, and timeless silhouettes,” and find that it represents my style perfectly. I also love a brand that is proud of and inspired by the city they come from because I’m also obsessed with this city and that they are a brand for women and made by women.
