This was such a productive week for me at my 9-5 and for the blog!
I can’t believe the first month of the new year is almost over and honestly I’m still feeling so motivated and positive. Remember, for 2018 we’re becoming our biggest fans so make sure to applaud yourself for every little thing you’ve done so far this year.
Tonight I’m staying over the boyfriend’s place and I’m excited to order in Chinese food and watch Avatar for the first time. Eddie keeps insisting we watch it and I finally gave in. Has anyone seen it? Let me know what you think of it! I don’t know why I always think I won’t like it.
And tomorrow he’s helping me get a few blog things done and since the weather is supposed to be nice I’m hoping we can get out and explore the lower east side!
Back in November & December, Sephora had a sale where they offered a certain percentage off your purchase. This was huge since they rarely have sales so naturally I went crazy. I was in such a palette craze and decided to take this sale opportunity to purchase a few that I’ve had my eye on for a while.
I haven’t tried them all and I’m still playing around with some of them, but there are a few that have really stood out to me and today I wanted to share 3 face palettes and 3 eyeshadow palettes that I have been loving and think they are totally worth the money.
Confession: I’m terrified of bronzer, especially bronzer & contour palettes.
Sure, I use bronzer in my everyday routine. Benefit’s Hoola & Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer are some of my favorites. But, I feel like it’s the longest part of my routine because I’m constantly blending and worried that it looks like too much.
I mean, that powder could make me look orange, dirty or like I overdid it. I was terrified.
So when Tarte released their Park Ave palette, I was so torn. On the one hand it was just so pretty aesthetically. I mean the packaging is perfect and I love the name. On the other hand, I always told myself I would never buy a bronzer palette because I would have no idea what to do with it. I mean they’re big selling point was that you could mix bronzers to get your perfect shade.
What does that even mean?? How do I do that?? How do I know what my color is??
Here’s how to be wasteful with your money 101: I decided to get the palette anyway because it was just too pretty to pass up.
And honestly this palette has been life changing. It’s made such a difference in my makeup routine. If you read my post on how I learned how to do my own makeup, you know I’m a big believer in just trying everything and experimenting and that’s exactly what I did with this palette until I got the hang of it.
I use every single powder everyday. The darkest color on the end I use as a crease shade and I like to lightly blend the other three bronzer shades to contour. The first highlight shade I use on the high points of my face and the second light shade I use under my eyes to conceal any dark circles. I highly recommend and think you will get your moneys worth.
Okay so this is a touchy subject for me. *cue the dramatics*
For the past three years Hourglass has released a face palette. It typically includes a bronzer, some blushes and highlighters.
For the past two years, I’ve always picked it up because it’s amazing. It’s pricey, but totally worth it and the packaging is always so pretty. They sell out super quickly though so you have to pick it up as soon as it launches.
Well folks, I didn’t listen to my own advice and I missed out on the 2017 one.
Devastated. I am still devastated. It was beautiful.
They have two highlight palettes still available however, that are great, but they’re just not a full face one that you would have gotten with the holiday set. But, I wanted to mention it because I do think they are so worth it if you can snag any of their palettes.
Hourglass products in general are pretty pricey, but I think their products apply beautifully and a lot of them are more natural for those of you who are more timid with makeup. I’ve loved the shades in a lot of my palettes that I’ve gone on to buy the full sized individuals.
I have three Becca face palettes, one full sized highlighter, their matte foundation, an under eye concealer and two primers.
Becca is one of my favorite brands and I really believe in their products. Their highlighters are the best, especially if you really love a blinding one.
The thing is, as much as I love highlighters, I’m most likely never going to go through an entire single one, so what I love about their face palettes is that they usually include three highlighters, a blush and a bronzer. Sometime it varies, but that’s the typical layout.
I like that I can try multiple different products without having to purchase individuals of everything. And they are so great for traveling because instead of bringing all these single products, you can just bring one palette. Most of their palettes feature a new product, whether that be a blush or a highlighter along with their most popular items already in stock.
And I personally love that. You really do get a lot for your money with these palettes.
BEST EYESHADOW PALETTES
By now we all know about Urban Decay’s Naked palette. It’s such a staple and even people who aren’t into makeup have picked up at least one.
But, what I think is a better investment for everyday is the Naked Basics palette.
It’s smaller and more compact and honestly has all the colors I need in an everyday look. I use the darkest black shade to lock in my under eye eyeliner. I mix the brown shades for a crease color and the lighter shades to highlight and brighten my eyes.
I’ve had both the first and second version in my collection for a while now, but only recently have really appreciated them. It’s such a great staple if you’re into makeup and need a good base and if you’re not into makeup, it’s such a basic and essential palette that it’ll be all you need.
To be honest, I’m not a huge Too Faced fan.
None of their products have really stood out to me and I don’t really buy into their cutesy packaging. But, for some reason when I saw images of this palette, I was so drawn to it.
It looked so beautiful and wearable. I know a lot of people are afraid of color and do not stray away from shades of brown. I used to be like that, but then I tried the warmer shades and the cranberry and peachy shades and I’m never looking back. They are so gorgeous.
The first time I used this palette I was blown away. The shadows blend like a dream and creating a look is effortless. Seriously one of my favorites and I keep reaching for it. I actually do love the look of this particular palette and it smells like peaches which is a nice touch. And it’s pretty compact so it would be great for travel as well.
I think you all know what I’m about to say… I first tried Morphe when the Jaclyn Hill Palette was released.
I’m sure you guys know, but I love Jaclyn Hill. When she released photos of her palette, I was on the fence. On the one hand, I wanted to support her, but on the other hand, I never strayed from shades of brown and she had everything in this palette and I was terrified.
But, honestly for the amount of shades you get, the palette is such a steal and it really was pretty so I decided to pick it up. I was lucky I was able to snag it on the first round of orders since it sold out and restocked several times. It’s now in stock at Ulta as well!
This palette really inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and there really is every single shade you could possibly need. The shadows blend beautifully and they are easy to apply. And again for that price, it’s seriously such a steal.
I hope you guys are liking these makeup posts as much as I enjoy writing them. My love of makeup is such a big part of my life so I’ve been trying to share that more on the blog. Now, what are your best eyeshadow palettes? What about your favorite face palette? Let me know in the comments below!
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have an amazing weekend!!
