This week was crazy busy and stressful at work, but thankfully because of that, it made the week fly by. And it kept my mind off Whole 30! I have a week and a half left and I can’t wait to treat myself to some bubble tea and pizza when I’m done!!
Today we’re getting techy-ish (lol) because I’m talking about my current favorite accessory, my airpods! Sharing my honest thoughts on them and also my updated list of my current top 5 favorite podcasts.
AIRPODS REVIEW: ARE THEY WORTH THE MONEY?
Last year, one of my friends at work purchased airpods. I remember her contemplating whether or not she should get them and her continuously saying how bad she wanted them. And when she finally did get them, she insisted they were the best things ever invented. I, on the other hand, like most of the world when the airpods were introduced, was skeptical. Like wouldn’t they fall out of your ears? Why are they so much money? You have to charge them? Besides, I still had an iPhone 6 Plus so I still had the headphone jack and frankly I was perfectly content with my original apple headphones.
Then December rolled around and my mom mentioned that she wanted to get me airpods for my birthday, but they were sold out at Best Buy. And I was thinking, why?? I never even asked for them. And then my boyfriend said he was considering getting me airpods for Christmas. Again, why??
But, as I was working one day, I found myself noticing and getting more and more annoyed with my headphones. Most of my day is spent in a sample closet so I’m constantly running around, bending down and just constantly on the move. And in the summer, it makes it so hard listening to my podcasts because if I wear a dress with no pockets, forget about it, I’m struggling the entire day through to listen to my podcasts or music. Even during my commute, where my headphones never bothered me before, I just couldn’t stand the cord anymore. I repeatedly would get stuck in the turnstile and have definitely ruined a pair or two that way.
The more I thought about them, the more I wanted it and the more I realized that they were actually perfect for my lifestyle, especially at work.
So one day, I took the plunge and ordered a pair from Best Buy. I mean the process of getting them in is a whole other story, but it basically took about two to three weeks. Fedex lost my package and then Best Buy had to resend another pair, but then it got delayed because of a snow storm. I have never been so anxious for something so I was annoyed. Okay that was a long backstory, but you know me, I love sharing details so let’s get into what I love about airpods.
AIRPODS REVIEW: THEY’RE CONVENIENT
I love that I can hit play on a podcast and just walk away and not have to worry about my phone in my back pocket or what to do if I don’t have pockets.
And gone are the days where my headphone are tangling and I’m sitting there trying to untangle them for a good 10 minutes. I’ve seriously destroyed so many pair of headphones in the past because the cord eventually gets worn out, but I love that I can literally pull these out, put them in my ear and be done with it. They just give me a sense of freedom as silly as it sounds and I love that.
When you have both headphones in and you take one out, it automatically pauses so you no longer have to struggle to get your phone out and hit pause. I mean total first world problems, but really! Especially commuting in New York, people always insist on talking to you and asking questions when you have headphones in so I love that I can pull a headphone out and everything pauses, put it back in my ear and it plays again.
I also customized each side so if I double tap my right headphone, it pauses whatever is playing in case I’m uber lazy and don’t want to pull my headphone out. And if I double tap my left side, it skips to the next song. A whole bunch of first world problems, but basically they’re pretty convienent.
AIRPODS REVIEW: NO, THEY WON’T FALL OUT OF YOUR EARS
This was my biggest concern and it’s the main reason that keeps people from purchasing a pair.
Even after I bought mine, my mom was like, aren’t they gonna fall out?? All I can say is, if the original apple headphones fit your ear and you’re comfortable with them, then these will be fine. I was so nervous the first month I used them and constantly kept pressing them into my ear because I was scared it was going to pop out at any time.
They won’t, they are secure and you get used to them.
AIRPODS REVIEW: THEY CHARGE SUPER FAST
I love listening to podcasts at work, it helps me focus and get my work done. So another concern I had was that they had to be charged. How long would they have to charge? So, I’m basically paying all this money and being unable to use my headphones all the time???
But, honestly, full disclosure, these charge super fast!! I remember one day I was using my airpods from about 8am to 3pm and they made a beeping noise to signify that they were dying. I put them back in their charging case, walked away to go to the bathroom, took a sip of water, came back and was curious to see how far along it was in the 6 minutes I was gone and it was fully charged.
And the charging case holds a pretty decent charge as well. I would say, you could get away with charging the case once a week.
AIRPODS REVIEW: THE SOUND QUALITY IS AMAZING
I mean, I’m no tech expert or even music expert so I’m not gonna say, oooh you can really hear the bass (base?!) because I have no idea what that means. But, I do think the sound quality is pretty good. If you wanted to, you could block out the world.
THEY’RE DEFINITELY A BETTER INVESTMENT
Like I’ve said, I’ve gone through my fair share of apple headphones. Although there are cheaper options out there, the apple headphones are my favorite so I always spend a little more for them. I seriously can not tell you how many times the cord has gotten messed up and they’re pretty much dead and done or I accidentally pull on them by getting stuck in a turnstile or whatever it is and I ended up buying a new pair every few months.
I’ve only had these for about four months so I can’t speak to them long term, but I do feel as if these will last longer and they’re for sure still in good condition. And plus, since they’re so small and pretty pricey, you’re definitely more motivated to take good care of them.
AIRPODS REVIEW- OVERALL
My short answer: they’re totally worth it.
I was skeptical, but I really do think they’re great. So if you find yourself constantly purchasing new headphones or are annoyed with the no headphone jack thing then I say go for it and invest in a pair.
And if you’re not an apple fan, there are a ton of other great wireless headphones out there. My boyfriend just got a pair of Bose that he’s in love with so regardless of your brand preference, I say give wireless a chance!
CURRENT TOP 5 FAVORITE PODCASTS
I’m a big chicken. Literally scared of my own shadow, but lately I’ve been getting into true crime podcasts and shows.
I like to think of this one as the true crime beginners intro to the true crime world. There’s no scary music playing in the background or emphasis on certain points to put a chill in your bones. It’s more lighthearted… well as lighthearted as a murder podcast can be.
It’s hosted by two people that work for Oxygen & Bravo. One of them is even the assistant to Andy Cohen and she is hilarious! They talk about their lives, drink martinis and share the drink of the week and share the murder of the week while giving their ideas and feedback. Each episode is a different crime so you’ll never get bored and the hosts just have great energy.
I binged this one so I’m all caught up and I find myself getting so excited each week for a new episode.
Such a quick and easy listen! It’s only 7 or 8 episodes and it’s not a typical true crime story if that makes sense.
When I started listening to it, I thought I knew the storyline and knew how it ended, but each episode kept me on my toes and I was shocked the whole way through. I’ve been recommending this to everyone that will listen. Even my friend at work who is the same as me and jumps at her own shadow even gave this one a try and loved it.
Not a new one for me, but its definitely one of my favorites and one I listen to every week.
Ross was actually just on Celebrity Big Brother so hearing his experience firsthand was pretty interesting! I love the dynamic between him, his manager and his many co-hosts and guests. It’s so fun and lighthearted and it’ll having you laughing for the whole hour through. They make you really feel like family and like they are talking to you directly.
A pretty new one for me. This was actually recommend to me by Dana and I’ve loved it since.
Olivia was on the Bachelor so if you’ve been keeping up with the seasons you’ll remember her. I didn’t watch her season so I went into it kind of blind, but I loved her energy and her hosting skills are amazing. I find that some podcasts, when they bring guests on, it’s incredibly awkward. The connection isn’t always there and you can feel the awkwardness through the phone. But, Olivia does a great job with connecting with her guests and she is hysterical.
I like listening to an influencer/motivational podcast in the morning during my commute and when I get ready. I find that it helps me start my day off on the right foot.
I’m still binging this one and actually working my way backward, but Julie is one of my favorites. She’s so relatable and insightful and the guests she bring on are amazing. I feel like I learn so much and walk away so inspired after listening to her episodes.
If you’re a blogger or have any kind of platform, I highly suggest this one!
I hope you guys enjoyed todays post! Do you already have airpods? I would love to know your thoughts and if you don’t, I hope to inspire you to pick them up, but if not let me know why you’re still on the fence!
Thank you so much for reading! Have a great weekend!
