Happy Friday Friends!
Back with another Friday Favorites. Not to toot my own horn, but this is the second week where I’ve had three posts up. Hello consistency! Nice to meet you! I’m pretty proud of myself so I wanted to share.
Anyways let’s jump into this weeks’ Friday Favorites.
FIVE FRIDAY FAVORITES
Early mornings with my mom
I shared on insta stories earlier this week that my mom now works right next door to my job. So since we both work uptown now and she has to be at work early, we’ve been leaving the house earlier. I always like to leave early with her because the trains are less crowded and I get an hour at the office to settle in, do my makeup and catch my breath before the crazy starts at 9. I say this all the time… I hate getting up early, but I love an early morning. I just love the calm and quiet of it all. And I’ve really been enjoying spending those early mornings with my mom just sitting outside and people watching or getting breakfast at Pret. Their chocolate hazelnut croissant is a gift from heaven!
Vietnamese Bánh mì
I love sandwiches and I love Vietnamese food so naturally I love Banh mì. If you’re not familiar with what it is, it’s basically a Vietnamese sandwich. It’s served on a french baguette and filled with different meats and veggies. A traditional one is filled with Vietnamese deli meats with pickled carrot daikon and cilantro. But, I also love the roast pork one. Anyways, this weekend, we got some sandwiches in Chinatown to take home for dinner and let me tell you, it hit the spot! We all were so full and satisfied after dinner. I had gotten an extra sandwich for lunch the next day, but Eddie enjoyed it so much that he stole my sandwich!! Definitely getting some more this weekend since I was robbed.
It was shark week this week!! In other words, I had my period this week. I also loooove when people refer to their periods as shark week because I think it’s hysterical. Anyways, for some reason, this period was the worst. I had horrible cramps not just on the first day, but pretty much the entire week. And I was ravenous. Seriously, I could have eaten a house. Does anyone else get specific cravings when their period is coming? Mine always varies. It could be thai food, green tea lemonade, pinkberry, but for the most part it’s always specific things!! I don’t just want chocolate, I want like a specific meal from a specific place, which is why I could have eaten the entire Chick-fil-A menu!
I forgot how beautiful Soho is. My mom, Eddie & I had so much fun wandering Soho last weekend and window shopping. I just love the architecture of the buildings and how everything seems so quaint. There is a photo op around every corner.
Sephora September Play Box
I just got my September Play Box from Sephora and I am so excited about this month’s bag. If you aren’t familiar with what the Play box is, it’s basically Sephora’s monthly subscription that includes 5 deluxe samples and typically a perfume or hair product sample. I did a review of the subscription when I first signed up, if you want to read more about it! Some month’s are hit and miss, but for the most part I really enjoy them and I love being introduced to new products and brands each month. Anyways, they have a new bag this month. They typically come in like a cloth/cotton collectible bag, but this month it came in this plastic reusable bag and I have to say, I’m feeling it. But, I’m loving my products this month. They included a primer I’ve been wanting to try, a lip pencil by Nudestix that I’ve been so curious about and a perfume sample of one of my favorite fragrances.
THIS WEEK WAS
There were a few changes this week that I had to adapt to and let me tell you, change is not my middle name so it was a bit of a challenge. I’m someone who likes a clear and organized schedule and routine. Like, if I write something in my planner with my trusty purple pen and the plan changes, I get so frustrated so it took some time this week adapting to the changes.
I was also a bit overwhelmed at work this week because there’s just so much going on and we are in between seasons. We’re closing out fall, getting into the heart of holiday and welcoming in spring. There are so many things I want to do and have to do and don’t know where to start so I felt like a chicken running around with no head on.
With that being said, it was a productive week and I’m pretty proud of myself for having three posts up on the blog again this week! And I also realized this week how grateful I am for the people in my life. My boyfriend came to meet me for a lunch date one day because I was feeling down, my friend Elizabeth is the most honest person I’ve ever met and she can take it as good as she can dish it, my friend Anna is the best listener and always brings in treats and my mom and I were closer than ever this week.
Allow me to be cheesy for a moment! But, as crazy and unpredictable as life gets, it makes me happy that I have people in my life who can be rock when I really need support.
Not much this week to be honest. Just a few fall essentials that I think would be great for that weird transitional period where it’s cold in the morning, but then hot in the afternoon.
So many amazing new arrivals and holiday gift sets!! There are three eyeshadow palettes that I have my eye on, which you can see in the shop the post widget. I’m in love with the Pat McGrath one even though it’s over $100, but I just know it will be worth it. I’m also really excited about the Hourglass holiday palette. I collect this every year, but missed out on it last year and was so upset so I’m not going to miss out this year.
For some reason, I can’t include these products in the widget below, but I’m also eyeing this Becca gift set with four highlighters. Becca makes the best highlighters. Also in love with this colorful Beautyblender set with cleansers. This Tarte palette was made for me, it’s in the shape of a PINEAPPLE!! And this mask set looks like a skincare dream.
Watching… Nothing new really! When I got home this week, I would just eat dinner and then work on my blog and try to go to bed by 10 so that I wouldn’t be a walking zombie in the morning. So I haven’t had much downtime so nothing new. But, Eddie and I watched Hocus Pocus last weekend and it really got me in the fall spirit so just hoping to watch more Halloween movies this weekend!
Listening… No new music, but I’m still on my podcast kick. I just started listening to Pop Talk with Ross Matthews. I think they are only 3 episodes in so you still have time to catch up! He gives a rundown of what’s going on in pop culture for the week and I like getting that quick update since I’m not as in tune with celebrity news as I used to be. I’m also starting two new true crime podcasts. I haven’t really started it properly yet so I have no feedback to share, but I’m excited. First one is Dr. Death which was started by the same creators of Dirty John and I loved that one so I have high hopes for this one. Also just downloaded The Teacher’s Pet which is about a cold case in Australia. They are actually re-opening the case now in present day so that’s really interesting!
Reading… I just finished The Ticket and I’ve loved it. So now I’m two for two on book hits for this month. It’s fun, it’s hilarious at times and it’s been such an easy read. I’m about to start California Summer next and since this is my last book in the queue, I’m also about to order three more books for the next round!
HAVE YOU READ?
Alicia just wrote a great post about competitiveness in the blogger industry and why it’s not worth it and doesn’t do you any good anyways. She also shares a personal experience about a competitive blogger “friend” that she experienced this past NYFW.
Kat is one of my all time favorite bloggers. I’ve been following her for years and even met her at NYFW and she was the sweetest to my mom & I. She has moved from NY to CA and I think it really suits her. I love seeing her West Coast content. Anyways, she recently shared her dining nook and I am SWOONING! Actually what my dreams are made of. And she shared a recipe for butternut squash mac & cheese from her upcoming cookbook. It looks so good that I can not wait to try and I’m so excited about her upcoming book!!
Rach shared this outfit from the Who What Wear Target collection and she looks amazing!! In love with the pieces she styled and the outfit she created.
Sharmili is one of my fave reads because she always keeps it 100 and I love her style of writing. She’s just so real and honest and funny and sarcastic. She reviews a lot of skincare and makeup and like I said, she keeps it 100. She recently reviewed UO newest in house beauty brand and her thoughts are pretty interesting!
- I dropped my phone last weekend as I was taking an Instagram photo. Literally right on the concrete ledge and all so my screen is cracked. It’s funny because I’ve dropped my phone literally 100 times. I have butter fingers, but my phone has never cracked before. So I have an appointment at the Genius bar to get it fixed.
- My mom & I are also going to the gym on Saturday & Sunday. It’s hard to fit a work out in during the week so we’ve both committed to going on the weekends. It felt so good to work out last week and just get my mind off things so I can’t wait.
- Last December, I started working with Clem to help me navigate the world of SEO since I knew nothing about it. And because pretty much only my mom was reading my blog so I wanted to give my little blog a fighting chance and it’s been a great experience. She is coming to New York next week so we are meeting up for a lunch date and I’m really excited to finally meet her in person and be able to put a face to the name. And to discuss end of year content for my site. I love the holidays and I always have so many ideas, but just choke when the time comes lol so I’m excited to start planning now.
- I have three more outfit posts from Puerto Rico! So two will be up next week and one more the following and then we will be jumping into pre-fall/fall outfits.
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you all have a great weekend!
