Back with another Friday Favorites!
FIVE FRIDAY FAVORITES
I ordered this book light a few months back because I wanted to be able to lay in bed and read my book without having my entire room light on. Since I’m trying to read again and work towards my personal goal of 100 books in 2019, I’ve just started using my book light again. This light was $10 and it’s honestly the best 10 bucks I’ve ever spent. The light has three settings: a high light, a white light and a warm light. The warm light is by far my favorite. And this is rechargeable so you never have to worry about changing batteries or anything.
Reading at Night
Going hand in hand with my book light… One of my favorite ways to unwind at night is to read a book in bed. It helps me shut my mind off after a long day and it’s nice to put away the phone and disconnect. Plus, the best bedtime routine is to put away the harsh lights from the electronics and instead read to really help you fall asleep. Side note – please forgive me for sharing Christmas photos! I really like this photo and didn’t get to post it during the holidays. And Playing With Matches by Hannah Orenstein is one of my all time favorite reads.
You know how Bath & Body Works always has coupons like “spend x amount and get a free item for x amount”? Last spring, I had that coupon and picked up a mini lotion in the Pink Lily & Bamboo scent. And it has honestly become my all time favorite scent. I have been stretching out the mini lotion to save it. So when I saw it on semi annual sale for about $4, I freaked out!! I just love this scent and it makes me so happy and makes me think of Puerto Rico and tropical weather and happy times. So I purchased 4 full size bottles of the lotion and 3 bottles of the body wash. I may sound ridiculous, but I am so excited about this purchase. Also, whoops because there goes “No Spend January.”
I didn’t really take the time for self care last weekend and this week I could really tell a difference. I just felt a step behind everything. So it really reinforced my belief that self care is so important!! This weekend, at the bare minimum, I plan to wash my makeup brushes, paint my nails and do a face mask. My friend Emma, went to Japan in November and gave me these sheet masks when she came back. They smell like peaches and I love taking the time to use one. It makes me feel so relaxed and it really helps moisturize my skin instantly.
The Color Green
I mentioned this in last week’s Friday Favorites, but I’ve been really loving the color green lately. My new desk chair is green, my new winter coat is green and as I was organizing myself and taking notes on outfits I wanted to photograph, I realized that I had purchased another green coat last Black Friday. When I was younger, my favorite color was obviously pink. Duh. So basic. Now, I don’t really have a favorite color per say because I just love color in general, but I have been finding myself gravitating towards the color green more.
THIS WEEK WAS
lol I know eh isn’t a word, but that’s the only thing I could think of to describe this week. Nothing spectacular happened, but it also wasn’t a bad week. Work was pretty slow and uneventful and I kind of fell behind a little bit on the blog, even though I’m happy to have gotten three posts up this week! So to sum it up, this week was just…eh.
I haven’t really been shopping since I’m trying to save money and do “No Spend January” although I did black out and place that Bath & Body Works order….
But, I’ve been wanting to update the prints and decor above my desk. Over the holidays, I reorganized my desk and even got a new chair and put up my Disney calendar and I feel like the last piece is just updating the prints.
There are three artists that I have been eyeing because I adore their work and think you should check out if you are into fashion illustrations. HNIllustration by Holly Nichols, Melsy’s Illustrations by Jamel Saliba and Make Things Co by Riley Sheehey.
I’ve been screenshotting the prints I like and trying to arrange them on my desktop to see which ones look good next to others and narrow down which ones to purchase so hopefully this weekend I finally make up my mind!
Short and sweet today since I only have one product to share. I have a breakout on my cheek and my chin that is so annoying!! Every time I have a blemish, I apply this drying lotion before bed and when I wake up the pimple is significantly smaller and after two or three days, it’s gone. The smell is strong and I hate it, but it’s so worth it.
When you purchase the bottle, you’ll notice all the pink powder is at the bottom and then this liquid is on top. You’re supposed to not shake it and leave it like that. Dip a q-tip into the bottle until you reach the pink powder and then pull it up and apply it on your blemish. So easy and so good. It’s just the smell that I hate!!
Watching… Eddie and I started You last weekend and are only three episodes in, but we are so invested. I haven’t watched it at all this week since we promised each other we would watch it together so I’m excited to binge it and finish it this weekend. Also, I am finally up to season 7 of the Real Housewives of New York. Bethenny is back and it is already significantly better than season 5 and 6.
Listening… I’m all caught up on the Pretty Basic podcast. I really do love it and it makes me love Remi & Alisha more. They are so honest and they talk about boy drama and what it’s like being an “influencer” and dealing with the negative comments and the burn out that comes with it. There is one episode where they talk about the team behind them and I found it so fascinating. Seriously, give it a try!
Reading… If you read my last Friday Favorites then you know I just go 2 new books in. And if you read my New Year’s post, you know that one of my personal goals for the year is to read 100 books. Anyways, I did a poll on Instagram Stories to see what I should start first and everyone voted for Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy. I am halfway through it and it is so good. I’m always hesitant with reading a book before or after a movie because you’re bound to get disappointed since they can’t include every scene. But, I have to say, I’m really impressed so far.
HAVE YOU READ?
Caitlin shared her nighttime self care routine and it totally makes me want to incorporate these products into my routine. I also love that she put herself on a nightly schedule to relax because I live for a routine!
I can not tell you how inspired I was after reading Kathleen’s post about therapy. I especially loved when she said, she always wanted to talk to someone, but never felt like she had a big issue. You guys know I have been struggling with my anxiety and I’ve been considering therapy, but have been so worried about the stigma around it so she really gave me the courage to give it a try.
Krista has some amazing tips on what to do before, during and after an interview, plus her outfit is everything. I love career themed post because I wish I had this information when I was interviewing and I’m a big believer that there’s always something new to learn.
Obsessed with this classic outfit Kendi styled. I need that plaid topper in my life ASAP!
I have such a weakness for little trinket trays. They are just so cute!! Lauren Conrad shares the best way to utilize little trinket trays so they don’t just sit and collect dust, but actually serve a purpose.
- A three day weekend! Woohoo! This is the first year my company gave us MLK day off so I’m so happy for that. The past two years, I was bitterly dragging myself into work while everyone was saying how happy they were to have a three day weekend.
- I have a ton of things I want to watch and a ton of shows I need to catch up on this weekend with Eddie. Top of the list is definitely You!!
- It’s supposed to snow this weekend. I’ve been hearing we’re gonna get a lot and some people seem to think nothing so we shall see. I wanted to try and take some photos so I don’t know if I will be able to, but I fully intend on taking advantage of this three day weekend to get some blog work done.
That’s all from me this week! Thank you so much for reading and following along.
I hope you have an amazing weekend.
